user-data on restarting the cloudinit service

description

While trying to debug my configuration I discovered that the user-data is always available from Amazon if you ask for the latest:

http://169.254.169.254/latest/user-data instead of http://169.254.169.254/1.0/user-data

This seems to work when you reboot the instance via the EC2 console as well.

You can easily change the endpoint where it downloads the user-data. Both urls should work fine however if you want to change it just edit the install-service.ps1 script and change the url.

If you've already installed the service you can edit the registry value HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CloudInit\Settings\UserDataFile

or powershell

import-module CloudInitAdministration
Set-CISetting -Name UserDataFile -Value "http://169.254.169.254/latest/user-data"
